In the Tatra poviat, Rafa\u0142 Sonik received the said title in the category \u201csocial and charity work\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cPersonality of the Year\u201d titles have been awarded for the first time in four categories: social and charity work, culture, local government and local society and business. The readers of \u201cGazeta Krakowska\u201d selected winners separately in Krak\u00f3w, Nowy S\u0105cz, Tarn\u00f3w, and in each of 19 poviats of the Ma\u0142opolska Region.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We would like to award persons engaged in the lives of their communities, who facilitate their development \u2013 local heroes who are not commonly known,\u2019 wrote Wojciech Harpula, editor-in-chief of \u201cGazeta Krakowska\u201d in his paper. \u2018Candidates for the \u201cPersonality of the Year\u201d title were nominated by our journalists, who write about the lives and problems of the residents of the region, and by our Readers. They were the ones who selected the winners.<\/p>\n<p>The ranks of the nominated persons in the Tatra poviat included Rafa\u0142 Sonik. According to the organizers: \u201c\u2013 a rally driver and a businessman, nominated for organising the annual \u201cClean Tatra Mountains(Czyste Tatry)\u201d campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Everybody knows that his activities in the Tatras is not limited to the \u201cClean Tatra Mountains\u201d event, during which thousands of volunteers clean out mountain trails and try to change bad habits of tourists. This is 10 years of meetings at Kasprowy Wierch of skiers, mountain climbers, former and current employees of TPN, TOPR, and GOPR. Christmas Eve meetings at Teatr Witkacego for a group of seniors from Zakopane \u2013 former sportsmen and women, olympians, cultural and social activists.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The credit for the \u201cClean Tatra mountains\u201d campaign goes not only to me, but first and foremost to the team representing the Czysta Polska Association that are engaged in the project. I\u2019m talking about Weronika Rychlicka and Agata Sieprawska, who live through a few-days-long organisational marathon, which is preceded by months of preparations. I wouldn\u2019t have received this distinction, had it not been for the team work, which is just as important here as it is important in sports,\u2019 said Rafa\u0142 Sonik during the \u201c2016 Personalities of the Year\u201d gala, as he accepted the award.<\/p>\n<p>Next to Rafa\u0142 Sonik, the list of nominees included: Janina and W\u0142adys\u0142aw Filar, who has been running a family foster home in Zakopane for years, Jan G\u0105sienica Walczak, nominated for developing Polish-Roma relations, Janusz Olejniczak, nominated for his efforts towards installing geothermal energy in Ko\u015bcielisko, and Piotr Manowiecki \u2013 an activist, who has been a strong proponent of fast rail connection to Zakopane.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of January 2017, \u201cGazeta Krakowska\u201d organized the plebiscite for the \u201cMan of the Year\u201d, but this year the event included a new title: \u201c2016 Personality of the Year\u201d, granted to persons who achieved a major success and served their local communities in a significant way.
