This was a great celebration for those who care about the cleanliness of the most popular Tatra trails! The Saturday’s open-air concert of “Piersi” band ended the fifth – record-breaking! – edition of the “Clean Tatra Mountains” initiative.
Despite bad weather, well over 4,000 volunteers “armed” with rubber gloves and garbage bags, sponsored by a long-term partner of the initiative – Jan Niezbędny company – set off for the mountains. Precise measurements revealed that the volunteers removed from the trails a total of 280 kg of litter left there by tourists. The trend from the previous editions was thus maintained – is spite of the growing number of volunteers, the amount of litter removed from the mountains is decreasing.
-This is amazing! More and more people clean the Tatras, yet the amount of litter picked by us is decreasing. This proves the effectiveness of the initiative, especially its educational aspect. We show that you can have great fun while taking care of the cleanliness of our most magnificent mountains – said Rafał Sonik, a famous rally rider and organizer of the initiative.
This time, the participants of the 5th editions of the “Clean Tatra Mountains” initiative could enjoy a great deal of attractions, including beating a Guinness record, in a town arranged on Dolna Równia Krupowa in Zakopane. With support of volunteers from the zakretki.info initiative, a figure from biodegradable waste – bottle caps – was arranged. Already on Sunday, it was confirmed that it was the largest such figure ever arranged in Poland. The Guinness record was probably beaten as well, though the organizers have to wait for the official confirmation for a few weeks. Moreover, for the two days of the project, the volunteers had access to a camping field as well as volleyball and badminton courts free of charge, and could check out what had been prepared for them by the organizers of an outdoor fair.
This year’s edition ended with a concert by “Piersi” band, who assured that – as in their famous hit – there would be a lot of fun, already next year, during the next edition of the “Clean Tatra Mountains” initiative.
