It was undoubtedly one of the most important events that have been held in Kraków over the past couple of years. The World Youth Day attracted hundreds of thousands of pilgrims fromm all over the world to Kraków, including the most important pilgrim, pilgrim “number 1” – Pope Francis.
Kraków saw all colours and smiles of the world. Rafał Sonik was happy to walk around in the crowds of young people and to talk to people from six continents. You could see the rider not only among people, but also on billboards, at public transport spots and in trams, where his image was placed as part of the campaign entitled “Kraków – the cradle of genius”.
The campaign uses images of famous and great people, who decided to live their lives at the former capital city of Polish kings. The list includes Wit Stwosz, Nicolaus Copernicus, Bona Sworza, John Paul II, and the representative of the modern culture – Andrzej Wajda and a sportsman – Rafał Sonik.
‘I am proud, happy, but also surprised that someone decided to use me as one of the images of people promoting Kraków during the World Youth Day. I would never dare place myself among such outstanding persons important for the history of Poland. Whenever I can serve my city, I do it gladly. I am happy that the way I live my life was distinguished in this way. I hope that I can, at least to a tiny extent, contribute to expanding the ranks of those who look at Kraków with happiness and smiles. Like the participants at WYD,’ said Rafał Sonik.
