During the Atacama Rally, Rafał Sonik won the World Cup for the third time in a row. In the last, Moroccan round of the struggle, the Pole may thus focus on a solid preparation for the January fight for another Bedouin statuette. In spite of that he announces a fight… with his errors and imperfections.
– I like the Morocco Rally very much because if a participant is well prepared for the stage, chances are big that he will not commit any error costing more than one minute. A motorcyclist who wins Dakar is characterized by ability to verify a navigational mistake very quickly and thus he loses at most several dozen seconds. I’m aiming at this ideal, thus a solidly covered OiLibya Rally makes me calm and confident that I can fight for a good result in Dakar. This was the case the year before and I hope that it will be the case also this time – said “SuperSonik” just before his departure for Africa.
Navigation in cross-country rallies is a key element, and, as pointed out by the Cracovian, in January 2016 it might have even greater meaning. – Change in the route and no desert stages mean that error-free navigation will be one of the most important things. It was decisive for my victory in the last edition of the super marathon, and I believe it is my asset. Many fantastic sportsmen are preparing for Dakar and I thus may commit possibly few errors to be able to take up the gauntlet. For this reason, in Morocco we are planning to test variety of options of preparation of the road book.
Testing is one thing, and ambition, dormant probably in each sportsman, is another thing. For this reason, though Sonik has already won the fourth World Cup, he claims that he will fight for the victory in the last round. – Certainly, I want to win, as always, but not at all cost. I will be watching my rivals in terms of preparation of their equipment, the same way they are watching us, but in sport categories: I will not rely on them. I’m not fighting with opponents, but with my errors – concluded the Orlen Team participant.
The OiLibya Rally in Morocco will start on Monday, October 5 in Zagora, and, will end on Friday, October 10 in Agadir.
The starts of Rafał Sonik are supported by PKN ORLEN.
