After a successful Polish round of SuperEnduro World Championship, the best riders are coming back to Tauron Arena Kraków. The honorable patronage of the event has been claimed by Rafał Sonik, the winner of the 2015 Dakar Rally.
As before, Grand Prix in Poland will open the season and the series of competitions for the champion title of this demanding discipline. The track, built of deep dirt, huge tires, logs, and rocks, is prepared to challenge the best skills of participants. Thanks to the cooperation between the City of Cracow and the Board of Sports Infrastructure in Cracow, the last year’s edition of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship took place on the stomping grounds of the legendary Polish motorcycle rider, Tadeusz Błażusiak, who is a six-time winner of the FIM Indoor Enduro World Cup.
In December 2016, Taddy won his last race in the SuperEnduro World Cup in front of thirteen thousand fans. The event in Tauron Arena in Cracow was quickly sold out and the audience provided an absolutely amazing and enthusiastic cheering in reaction to the enthralling, final performance of their home hero. Tadeusz Błażusiak couldn’t ask for a better farewell and all riders left Poland with wonderful memories.
During the latest press conference announcing the opening round on Saturday, the return of Tadeusz Błażusiak to the competition was officially confirmed. Since the champion was not able to appear in person, journalists were anxious to hear more from the organizers, and the representatives of the city and Tauron Arena. Moreover, just like a year before, the second part of the conference was dedicated to the incoming Dakar Rally. Rafał Sonik and Kamil Wiśniewski summarized their goals, plans and expectations connected with the legendary off-road Odyssey through South America.
“The 40th edition of the Dakar will also be my personal anniversary. It will mark my 10th attendance in the race. Obviously, it’s a moment in time when most sportsmen are inclined to recap their careers. Mine comes up to 36 World Cup rallies, and 7 races completed in South America. Such rich experiences teach you to always stay humble, so I’m not going to set off with a declaration to win. I am fully aware how unpredictable and fickle the fate of the Dakar rider can be. Rest assured, I will do my best to take podium though”, announces Rafał Sonik.
